The Mountain Hut competition was sponsored through U.C. Berkeley, to be built high in the Eastern Sierras in California. The form was based on existing geologic formations, utilizing glass screen walls to maximize views and southern exposure. Trombe walls and solar hot water were employed to increase the efficiency of the mechanical systems. The concept was to develop a prototype that could be built in a variety of locations and used to alleviate the growing influence of hikers and campers by consolidating their stay within a sustainable environment.
