Hearst Memorial Mining Building - University of California, Berkeley
Date: 00/00/0000 | Location: Berkeley, California, USA | Area: | Cost:
The jewel of the Berkeley campus, this project required substantial renovation work to bring this significant building up to current seismic standards as well as to restore the building to its original splendor. Substantial documentation and field verification preceded much of this work to provide a basis upon which many of the key decisions were made and on which the construction documentation was based. The approach to structurally base isolate the building allowed much of the original building above-grade to remain undisturbed. Working closely with the consultants, the design team also was able to fully restore the original light courts within the center of the building to allow natural light to permeate the interior offices and laboratories.
Joshua Cohn served as project team designer while with NBBJ.
